How to Grow Your Health

Ever notice how some people can use and abuse themselves and never get sick…until they do. Others stray off their program once and end up in bed for a month. We all come with our own baseline level of health. We are conceived with a level of health, born with a level of health …and throughout our journey from childhood into adulthood throughout old age, we accumulate experiences that affect our physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual well-being.  There is no escaping the fact that our mind and body responds to its environment, both internally (stress, malnutrition, sleep, menopause, genetics) and externally (pollution, relationships, victimization/abuse). See, medicine doesn’t necessarily help the body heal. Time does, but the level of health at the time of intervention matters….and how you spend your time most certainly matters, maybe most of all.

If you’re fortunate to be healthy the very least you can do PROTECT YOUR HEALTH rather than wreck that health. Why defy all the risk factors only to have it all catch up to you. As Ben Franklin said “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure'”, so eat something healthy everyday including green veggies, ensure you’re having daily bowel movements, move your body, eat fermented and living foods sometimes and drink enough water- that’s 1/2 your body weight in pounds, in ounces of water. If you want to be healthy, act healthy – if you want to be pregnant, act pregnant, if you want to be strong – get strong.

You are generally healthy but prone to symptoms of allergies, headaches, acid reflux, colds or flues. In this case, you want, not only to protect your system but FORTIFY YOUR HEALTH. Be proactive not defensive. Engage in physical exercise, take your probiotics, discover and remove food sensitivities and replete any nutrient deficiencies; magnesium, vitamin C and Vitamin D3 to build your immunity. Watch what you eat so you can heal your digestion and get plenty of rest during the appropriate hours. Whether you are 21 or 81, when your body is showing your regular symptoms then this it’s time to pay attention.  This is the easiest time to heal your body naturally.

Once you are suffering from a chronic condition like chronic fatigue,  diabetes or sugar swings, high blood pressure, high cholesterol then you want to RESTORE YOUR HEALTH.  By this point, you need to shift your priorities to yourself. You’ve ignored your health for long enough. By making a concrete lifestyle change such as increasing number of fruits and veggies to 8/day, detoxing your system, going vegetarian, starting an ongoing meditation program, starting an appropriate elimination diet and seeking advise on condition specific supplements to heal a damaged organ system. Depending on who you are, this could be letting go of old baggage, reducing stress level once and for all, getting off the sugar.

When you are unlucky enough to never have been in good health then medicine has been a long-standing priority for you. You may have seen every doctor under the sun, but have you focused on you well-being yet. Maybe illness crept up, symptoms came on and you ignored them, were too young or were unequipped to understand their meaning. Or maybe you just followed the medical route.  If you have a chronic run of gum disease, uncontrolled diabetes, overwork in your history only to be diagnosed with something more serious, then you’re at the point to REGENERATE YOUR HEALTH. In fact, you may very well have a degenerative condition like autoimmunity, renal failure, cancer, central nervous system issue that came on years or months after anxiety, Lyme’s disease, anemias, immune issues, allergies, GERD, heart disease or any number of chronic disease.

Remember, no matter where you are in terms of your health journey – even if you have the “C” word, you are not the illness. You still have wellness worth developing. GROW YOUR HEALTH!
