How I put my Autoimmune Disease in Remission

Hi!  I’m Chinyere Williams, Certified Holistic Health Coach and autoimmune disease/Hashimoto’s sufferer.   I wasn’t always a Holistic Health Coach who thrived on whole foods, kale smoothies and 8hrs of sleep!

Actually, I used to be a 6-figure corporate Project Manager for some of the biggest Wall Street firms.  In my 17 years in the corporate world, I worked on some of the largest mergers and acquisition projects and got to travel to some really cool places like Seoul, Korea; Sao Paolo, Brazil; Dusseldorf, Germany; Madrid, Spain; Milan, Italy - among others!  But for years I knew something was missing in my life although it took a while to figure it out.

Ironically, my pain became my passion.  Around age 35 I began noticing some big changes in the way I looked and felt – and not good changes!  At first I just chalked them up to getting older and the “natural” degeneration that occurs.  My doctor’s all said everything was “fine” so I was content living in ignorance while I continued to eat what I wanted, avoid exercising, sleep very little and in general make my condition worse.

Eventually I realized SOMETHING wasn’t right. Year after year I felt worse, picked up more and more weight, had ZERO energy, was losing my sex drive despite having a super hunky boyfriend that adored me and entered a mild depression about my health, my career and life in general.

Turns out I had been suffering from Hashimoto’s Thyroid disease – an autoimmune condition in which my immune system had begun to attack my thyroid.  By this time I’d enrolled in nutrition school and was taking some advanced classes in functional nutrition so I knew about autoimmunity.  I understood enough to know that getting to the root cause of my condition was critical and the root cause WAS NOT my thyroid!

After finding a physician that also worked functionally, we devised a game plan that addressed my underlying problems like blood sugar imbalance, leaky gut, food sensitivities, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

After just a few weeks, I felt AMAZING!   

I no longer needed frequent naps during the day AND I still had gas in the tank come evening time (something that hadn’t happened in YEARS!).  My skin was glowing, the weight was starting to melt away without any change to my workouts, I noticed I had zero belly bloat; way less gas and my bowel movements were exactly as they should be.

I was 100% convinced food was indeed medicine and that working from the root cause (versus chasing solutions to each symptom as I had been doing for years) made all the difference in the world.
